Krakow's Studio Szostak Atelier is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and design of practical objects, which exude sophistication. Recently, the atelier's founder, Witold Szostak, proudly displayed his flagship collection from The Finish series in a unique photo shoot.

The artist opted for the Wawel Royal Castle as the venue, which is a truly exceptional location in every sense of the word - a place of immense significance, symbolism, and extraordinary artistic elements, including architecture, furniture, and art, crafted by the best artists over several centuries. The search for the perfect space to showcase the exceptional beauty of the Finish collection was long and arduous, but the artist eventually found the ideal spot, which needed to be equally artistically refined. This is because Szostak Atelier's collection draws from the classics of the best Art déco and Bauhaus design styles, while simultaneously maintaining a unique and contemporary feel that is both original and timeless. The photo session took place inside the staircase of the building designed by the celebrated architect, Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz, whose work philosophy was to merge historic architecture with modern design. Szyszko-Bohusz firmly believed that a reverence for old objects should not diminish people's love for the future. This belief resonates with the artist-architects of this project. The 1940s space, with its sleek and refined style, functionality, attention to detail, and momentum ideally influenced one another, accentuating the beauty expressed in the photographs captured by the painter and photographer, Dr. Anna Stankiewicz. The unique space, combined with the Finish collection, enabled the presentation of different styles in an eclectic manner. The Finish collection is a perfect harmony of functional assumptions and aesthetics. All the objects displayed during the session were handmade and designed by the artist, using only the finest quality materials. Each piece was painstakingly shaped and refined from raw metal, wood, and leather to become a masterpiece of applied art.

The chosen location of the photo shoot inspired the artist to expand the collection further by creating a distinctive table, which was crafted using marquetry techniques and combined with a scaled-up photographic lens bellows, taken straight out of a photographic atelier, placed "on its head." "I was missing an element where you can put down a glass of whiskey. (...) The "mosaic" on the table is classic to the point of pain; a square of the tabletop divided into 4 parts, and the drawing of the wood grain brought out in the sidelight is supposed to provide pleasure, it is also supposed to be a decoration - a reflection of the entire interior"- says Szostak. The Finish collection, much like Szostak's other works, is characterized by a unique style that he cheekily describes as “techno-baroque.” Items from the Finish collection Roadster armchair with footstool The Roadster armchair and footstool represent a stunning fusion of modern design and homage to the past. Crafted from solid wenge wood, vegetable-tanned leather, and stainless steel. The artist's inspirations are evident in the sleek lines reminiscent of classic sports cars, boats, and aviation. The armchair boasts leather straps with self-tightening mechanisms, allowing for adjustment of the seat inclination angle. The wooden elements are formed from thick wenge planks that are meticulously joined using tongue-and-groove joinery. The final shape is achieved through an intricate process of hand sanding, ensuring a flawless finish. With its exceptional attention to detail and expert craftsmanship, the Roadster armchair and footstool are a testament to the beauty and functionality of contemporary design.
